PhD, University of Hamburg, Germany, 1995; DiplPol, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baden-Wuerttemberg, 1983. At PTC 1991–1994 and since 1998. Manfred worked at PTC from 1991 to 1994 as researcher. After working as Consultant for Bread for the World, Germany he rejoined the College in 1998 and is currently the Director for Projects and Research. He obtained a Diploma in Political Science and Modern History from the University in Hamburg in1983 and a PhD from the same University in 1995. Dr Ernst is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany and married with 2 children.
With vast experience in research in Central America, the Caribbean and Pacific Islands Dr Ernst has published numerous books, book articles and articles on a variety of subjects. In the Pacific Islands he is known as author of the book Winds of Change—Rapidly Growing Religious Groups in the Pacific Islands, which was published in 1994. In July 2006, his latest book was released: Globalization and the Re-Shaping of Christianity in the Pacific Islands, the result of a regional research project he coordinated.
